----What is Lymphedema?----
Lipedema is an abnormal accumulation of fat cells, often in the legs and buttocks, and is thought to be linked to genetics, hormonal fluctuations, and may be seen in family history.
-----Symptoms----
... Symmetrical swelling in the legs (or sometimes arms) that stops sharply at the ankles or wrists, leaving feet and hands normal-sized.
..... Pain, often described as aching or throbbing, and tenderness.
.....Bruising easily.
...... Skin changes, such as dimpling or unevenness.
...... Fat that is relatively unresponsive to diet and exercise.
........ Appearance:
.....Lipedema often presents with a characteristic "cuff sign" or "reverse shouldering" where the ankles are nearly the same circumference as the thighs.
----Treatment----
----- Compression therapy.
------ Specialized lipedema diets.
------- Lymphatic-sparing liposuction to reduce fatty tissue.
........Physical therapy.
In later stages, lipedema can lead to lipo-lymphedema, where the excess fat compresses the lymphatic vessels, causing fluid buildup and secondary lymphedema.
